WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THIS CLASS
This is an oil painting class not a drawing class. We will by-pass that step altogether.
Every painting will begin with an under painting, which is a technique the old Masters used. It is an important step to a successful painting. You will learn how important it is to see color values in painting. This is a valuable tool, it will also add to the finished Look of your paintings.
You will learn how to mix paint, how to blend colors, how to create shadows and highlights and how to achieve depth in your painting.
You will learn how to use your brushes for different effects and you will also learn how to take proper care of your brushes.
I will let you choose your own subject matter. My belief is, if you paint what you like, you will paint better.
If you are a beginner I would recommend something simple like a bowl of fruit or a landscape, no flowers or people.
DO NOT paint off of a photograph, unless you have painted before. Not every photo can be interpreted to art. Use a picture from any magazine, calendar, book or a greeting card. If you need help with that I have reference material that does not have photocopy rights on it.
The Class will have an informal setting; it will be most rewarding, relaxing and enjoyable.
Painting is supposed to be fun.
Please note the first class may be shorter then the usual three hours. Time: 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

If you would like to take the picture you have chosen to paint to a place such as Staples and have them make you a black & white copy (on photo setting) the same size as the canvas you are going to be painting on. For example; if you’re canvas is 16x20, have your black and white copy of your picture as close to that same size as possible. Don’t worry if you don’t get this done or if you have questions because we will go over this in the first class.
P.S. Wal-mart, Michaels & Joann’s are good places to get your supplies.
If you like to shop on line, there is Dick Blick & cheap Joe’s.
